Marketing Communications Planner

Summary

The Marketing Communications Planner is the strategic architect of the conception and implementation of business-building plans across a variety of channels. The position sits at the intersection of ideas and media, partnering closely with the creative teams and the individual media buyers to ensure a comms idea is properly integrated across the channels that best meet our client’s communications tasks. This role calls for a strategist with a creative heart and an analytical mind who can contextualize an idea within the appropriate channels and ultimately ensure that creative execution and media strategy work together to achieve client goals.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day comms planning; play a key role in building trusted relationships with clients alongside other teammates
  • Partner closely with Channel Strategy/Media and Creative leads to ensure creative ideas make most effective use of an integrated mix of owned, earned and paid channels, and are deployed through the appropriate targeted media and technologies
  • Partner closely with earned and owned channel strategists to ensure that the communication idea is adopted and executed seamlessly throughout channels like social, PR and .com properties
  • Partner closely with channel media strategists to ensure that the communications strategies are deployed through the proper mix of paid channels
  • Partner with Content Strategists and UX Designer to develop consumer journeys for each campaign or activity, outlining the appropriate channel mix for the identified trigger points
  • Determine the communications tasks for each campaign and write task briefs that guide messaging and execution tailored for each channel
  • Work with Decision Analytics team and Channel Strategists to create measurable campaign KPI’s, helping to enhance creative effectiveness and exceed client goals
  • Read and analyze campaign metrics and leverage insights from data to improve comms effectiveness
  • Responsible for demonstrating an understanding of consumer behaviors within media, and a working knowledge of media relevant to the client’s business including TV/OTT, digital, social, experiential, print, OOH, and search
  • Showcase an understanding of digital, social and emerging platforms and technologies
  • Occasionally participate in new business pitches
  • Lead client POVs on strategies and approaches to the ongoing changing landscape of media planning, activation and measurement
  • Creates a positive working environment and fosters an overall team approach
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of client business, from both current and historical perspectives
  • Oversees the progress of all communications strategy projects and provides central point of contact to client and Account Management team on strategy changes

Requirements

  • Understanding of strategy experience in an advertising, digital or media agency (or all of the above)
  • 8+ years of experience in a comms planning, media planning, or strategy role; expertise in developing digital, social and experiential marketing plans a big plus
  • Experience in an advertising, digital or media agency (or a combination of all three)
  • Experience with integrated advertising campaigns across multiple media channels and the ability to demonstrate its impact on the brand
  • Superior professionalism with clients and internal team
  • Experience analyzing campaign performance and an understanding of the role analytics plays in selling and measuring ideas (including Google)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills as well as proven ability to develop well-written documents and eloquently present
  • Highly organized and process oriented
  • Ambitious personality who is open to helping with any task, high energy and enthusiasm to learn and grow
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines
  • Experience managing team projects from ideation to execution
  • Comfortable presenting to senior clients and senior internal team members
